Friday Roundup #33
The deer have been out on the property a lot now that the fawns are getting old enough to come along with their mamas. Remy and I have seen quite a few on our daily creek walks. This one was curious as we got closer, and almost seemed to pose for me before taking a quick drink and sauntering away.
In other news, Zach and I went for tattoo consultations Tuesday evening. This will be his first tattoo and my second. Our artist is in such demand that the first opening we could get with him is in January, but he said he’d keep an eye out and let us know if a cancellation opens up. More details as things move forward.
After the consult, we ducked around the corner to a little Persian restaurant called Noosh. We wandered through the adjacent grocery store first (I will absolutely be back to shop there), then sat down to a really good dinner. I had the jujeh kebab (chicken marinated in saffron and yogurt) and Zach had the combo (one each of the chicken and the barg; scored, rolled slices of sirloin). Excellent meal, and we’ll be back.

- Coming on the blog: A retrospective on ten years with a kamado grill, homemade chili crisp, and homemade mushroom powder.
- Garden Update: Brussels sprouts seedlings are starting to sprout; still in the tiny two-leaf stage, but I have hope for them. Between the rain and the heat, the weeds in the front beds are going crazy. I need a couple of hours with the weed popper and a bucket and temperatures that aren’t in the 90s.
- What I’m Reading: I picked up the paperback of Stephen King’s Duma Key [Bookshop.org* | Kindle] while cleaning my office last week and got sucked right back in; took me three days to read the whole thing through again. I’d forgotten how truly creepy that book is. I’m still working on An Hour Before Daylight: Memories of a Rural Boyhood by Jimmy Carter [Bookshop.org* | Kindle]. I’m taking it in small sips, savoring the idea of a President with morals, ethics, and the ability to write so poetically.
- What I’m Watching: Not much on TV. We had two baseball games this week and got to see Ronald Acuña Jr. and Ha-Seong Kim rehabbing at one of them; exciting game. Tomorrow we’re heading to the theater to see The Odyssey, and I’m really looking forward to it. I also finally sat down with Undertone [IMDb | Rotten Tomatoes], a truly creepy little horror movie; no gore, no jump scares, just an ever-increasing sense of unease and simmering horror.
- What I’m Eating: Ball park food. My homemade carrot cake (recipe coming in the next couple of weeks). And salads to offset the ball park food, washing everything carefully because I do NOT want either of us to get cyclosporiasis.
What are y’all reading/watching/cooking/dealing with this week? Let me know in the comments.

P.S. Yes, I did fear-Google cyclosporiasis before writing that salad line. No, I will not be taking questions. Wash your produce, folks.
P.P.S. Re-reading Duma Key means I now side-eye every seashell in the house. Worth it.
P.P.P.S. Reading a President who could actually write is doing something to my blood pressure, and I mean that in the good way.
