Instant Hydration (The Electrolyte Powder We Actually Like)
Welcome to a new corner of the blog I’m calling Things We Love. It’s exactly what it sounds like: the products and small companies we genuinely use and would recommend to a friend, no strings attached. Some of these will have a values angle (there are always reasons around here). Some will just be “this is great, you might like it too.” No affiliate relationship required to earn a spot; if one exists, I’ll tell you plainly.
First up: Instant Hydration.
Full transparency before we go any further: this is not an affiliate link. I’ve applied to their affiliate program, but I’m not in it yet, and honestly I’d be writing this either way. We’re three months into a subscription, paying for it ourselves, and we’re still happy. That’s the whole reason we’re here.
Why we needed it
This one started with Zach. He’s a big guy who works out in our Georgia garage gym in the summer (and is starting to document it over on his YouTube channel, Dad With A Gym), which means he sweats. A lot. He’s also been trying to break a genuine Coke Zero habit, and “just drink water” is not, it turns out, a compelling pitch to a man who wants something with a little flavor and function to it.
So he needed two things: a real way to replace the electrolytes he sweats out, and something to reach for instead of another Coke Zero. We’d both tried the electrolyte mixes you grab at the grocery store, and they were universally too sweet, with that unmistakable fake sugar-alcohol aftertaste that makes your mouth feel like it’s apologizing to you. Not for us.
What it’s actually like
I saw Instant Hydration on social media somewhere (I genuinely cannot remember where; the algorithm giveth) and ordered their starter kit: four flavors and a bottle. I don’t really use the bottle. But the flavors? We’re both sold.
They’re noticeably less sweet than the grocery-store stuff, and they’ve got that salty-sweet-sour thing going on that shifts depending on which flavor you grab. It tastes like a drink, not like candy dissolved in water.

We’ve tried six flavors so far, and out of all six, exactly ONE was a miss: the straight sea salt one, which for us was like sucking on a piece of seaweed. And not the good crisp Japanese sushi kind; more like a big rubbery piece that washed up out of the ocean. One out of six is a batting average I’ll take from any flavor lineup.
The current household favorite is the Paloma, which has a bright grapefruity thing going that I could drink all summer.
How we use it
Zach mixes his with a little rechargeable frother wand (not an affiliate link, just the one he uses), which whips it up smooth in about ten seconds. I’m lazier about it: I dump a packet into my Hydroflask with some ice cubes and shake it like I mean it. Both methods work fine; use whatever’s already on your counter.

The money part
Each box is a 30-count of single-serve tubes you add to water. Full price is $55 a box, which comes to roughly $1.88 a packet; right in the neighborhood of what you’d pay for the comparable stuff at the grocery store, except we like this a lot more. They run sales fairly regularly, and there’s a subscription discount if you want to lock in a lower per-packet price, so it’s worth checking for a current deal before you buy.
That’s it. I’m not shilling; I’m just sharing something we both reach for daily and are genuinely glad to pass along. If it sounds like your thing, it’s at instanthydration.com.

P.S. If you order the starter kit and get the sea salt flavor: I’m sorry. Give it to someone you have complicated feelings about.
P.P.S. If Instant Hydration does eventually take me into their affiliate program, I’ll update this post to say so, loudly and clearly. You’ll never have to wonder around here.
