Y’all, it’s Friday and I’m ready for the weekend. This has been one of those weeks where the weather can’t make up its mind, work has been relentless, and I’ve been coming home too tired to do much of anything except exist on the sofa. Here’s what’s been happening around here this week, plus what I’m reading, watching (or not watching), and eating.

- February is Black History Month – Black History Month was observed in various forms starting in the 1920s, but it was officially recognized by President Gerald Ford in 1976, during the celebration of the Bicentennial. I’ll be posting some other related content this month, including some recipes from some of the Black cooks and authors I follow.
- Winter Olympics – The 2026 Winter Olympics start today, in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy. I love the Winter games and I’ll be streaming the opening ceremonies while I’m working today. (They’re at 1:30pm Eastern time, streaming on Peacock). And I can’t wait to watch the Jamaican bobsled team compete again!
- Still More Crazy Winter Weather – When I left for work on Thursday morning it was snow-sleeting. There was snow on the cars and a dusting in all the flower beds. In the meanwhile next week, we’re supposed to have daytime temperatures in the mid-to-high-60s. Welcome to Georgia.
- Remy’s New Favorite Thing – Unlike most pitties who turn into couch potatoes when it’s cold, Remy absolutely loves winter weather. He’ll race out the door at top speed, run down to the creek and along the berm, stop to drink some ice-cold creek water, then make the whole circuit again with his tail tucked in for additional aerodynamic streamlining. He’d be thrilled if we’d take him outside ten times a day. Me? I’d rather stay inside where there’s a fireplace and a warm cup of tea.
- What I’m Reading: Sister Wife: A Memoir of Faith, Family, and Finding Freedom – I just started this so I don’t have a whole lot to say about it yet. Ever since Big Love, I’ve had a fascination with modern day polygamy and the people who practice it. I’m curious to see what her take on it is and why she left the life.
- What I’m Watching: Nothing much. I’m trying to break the habit of coming home and immediately nesting on the sofa and mindlessly channel flipping until bedtime. So we’ve been streaming music instead and each of us working on something; for Zach it’s his game, for me I’m drawing in my Bullet Journal, or trying to pick up knitting again, or just reading my book.
- What I’m Eating: We discovered a new-to-us Greek restaurant in the neighborhood – Santorini Greek Restaurant. Zach and I snuck away for a mid-week lunch date on Wednesday; he had the gyro platter and I had the chicken platter. Both came with salad and “Greek potatoes” which were big baked potato halves, drizzled with a lemon/oil/herb mixture. SO GOOD. As we were leaving someone at the front counter was pouring honey syrup on a fresh batch of baklava, so we definitely have to go back and try some other dishes and leave room for the baklava!
What are you reading/watching/cooking/dealing with this week? Let me know in the comments.
P.S. I’m already planning what I want to order next time at Santorini. I’m thinking the falafel platter. Or maybe the spanakopita. Or both. It’s research.
P.P.S. Last weekend there was a gorgeous full moon rising behind the bare winter branches of the trees in our back yard. I had to photograph it, even though it was 18°F outside. It was worth the frozen fingers!
